Sadly, I don't know which came first, the 4 part series as stand alone comic books or this hard cover edition with all 4 parts. What I know is back in 1986, DC Comics released a hardcover book limited to 4000 printings. The book is numbered and signed by the Author, Artist, and Creator, Frank Miller. This is number 1902. This comic book was originally purchased from a comic book shop in Huntington Beach called The Land of Oooohs and Ahhhhs Comics. Officially designated by DC Comics as #1S-1ST
Sadly, the sleeve cover has long since been destroyed by Little Grey Kitty, but the comic book itself is in pristine condition. Being never opened and never read, there are not even spine creases. Also, I am told the sleeve cover can be replaced for about $30 for those who are investment minded instead of reading and collecting.
This hardcover comic book / graphic novel is from my husband's personal collection and contains a complete set of all (4) in the series including: Batman The Dark Knight Returns, Batman Dark Knight Triumphant, Batman Hunt the Dark Knight, and Batman The Dark Knight Falls.
A rare opportunity for the Batman comic book collector to obtain a rare signed hardcover edition and should bring high grades from grading services like CGC. To maximize grading potential and return on investment, replacement of dust cover or jacket sleeve is a must.
